The Challenge Begins

Tomorrow, many of our Barre Bees will begin the Get Hot for Summer Challenge. Measurements were taken Friday and Saturday so that participants can gauge how much this challenge has changed their bodies (as well as giving participants the chance to win fabulous prizes). At Barre Bee Fit, we are genuinely excited at the prospect of utilizing this challenge to help ourselves become healthier and feeling great for summer. Yet while this challenge fits in with fitness goals, it also brings up the concept of goals in general.

What are your summer goals?

As Aristotle said:

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”

Setting goals is an excellent way to continue personal improvement. It can be easy to settle into a routine, and goals are a way of making sure that you continue to try new things, expanding your comfort zone.

The problem with habits is that they can be difficult to break. So for the next 6 weeks, Ann Arbor Barre Bee Fit will be posting a weekly blog to help you meet your goals – whether it’s as part of our “Get Hot for Summer” challenge, or your own personal aspirations.

In the beginning, energy and motivation is high. Utilizing this energy and motivation to help with some planning can help make the goal easier to achieve, overall. Visualize the goal being achieved, and continue to visualize this achievement when you’re feeling a bit less energetic.

With regards to planning, try to break your end goal down into small, easy-to-maintain pieces. If your goal is to lose weight, perhaps making the commitment to eat breakfast every morning, and exercising four days a week for the next six weeks are a few of the smaller assignments you give to yourself.

So put some thought into the steps you need to take to achieve your goal, and take the time to clearly visualize your goal being achieved, and you are well on your way to realizing your accomplishment. Remember to read the blog next Friday for some more advice on actualizing your goals.
