“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
At this point in the Get Hot for Summer challenge, nearing the end of week one, participants are most likely in one of two boats: you’re either going strong (in which case, congratulations! and keep up the good work), or you’ve been putting off beginning the healthier eating and exercising until “tomorrow” and are now wondering if it was a good idea to embark on this challenge, at all.
To be short and to the point: yes. Yes, it was a good idea to participate in this challenge.
First of all, if you’re falling slightly short of your initial goal, don’t beat yourself up. Changing your lifestyle is difficult, because normal routine and habit is usually difficult to escape. Be kind to yourself, and whether your goals are going well or not, make sure to treat yourself occasionally because you deserve it (and it will also help you avoid bingeing).
Secondly, it is never too late to make change. Focus your mind on the here and now, while at the same time keeping your end goal in mind so that you are motivated to make the changes you are working on in the present. Do not worry about mistakes that have been made in the past, and do not let yourself be content with current progress – keep pushing yourself, and you will be amazed at what you can do.
As Thomas Jefferson points out in the quote above, with the right attitude, a person is capable of anything. Remember that you are capable of changing your lifestyle, and keep that vision of what you are trying to achieve in the forefront of your mind.
