Trading in the Baster for Running Shoes

While many of us associate the holidays with large amounts of food and an inevitable weight gain, there are some families that create the opposite result around the holidays – by participating in fitness activities as a family, the family members do not gain weight (and, in fact, possibly lose some), and still have great holiday memories.

A great thing about group fitness activities for the family is that participating in those activities can bring family members closer together. Some of the activities might involve teamwork, but all of the activities mean that the participants are engaging in physically difficult exercise. As anyone who has participated in a group fitness class can attest, doing physically strenuous activities with other people often brings people together.

Another great thing about doing group fitness activities with the family is that you’re doing something that is healthy for you – as well as burning some calories before consuming dinner with your loved ones.

If you are interested in participating in a family group fitness activity, and your family gathers in Ann Arbor on Turkey day, consider signing up for Ann Arbor’s Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot is a 5k run on North Campus. You can register on-line until Tuesday, November 20, and there will also be walk-up registration available before the run begins.

Going out of town and having trouble finding a fitness activity in which to partake? Find a fun fitness video or video game the family can do together. The sillier, cheesier videos will likely be more fun while creating memorable family moments.

You are also free to work out with your Barre Bee Fit family on Thanksgiving day. There will be 2 classes offered at the studio on Thanksgiving Day – one at 8:30 a.m., one at 9:45 a.m. If you are interested in working out next Thursday, you can also work out for free if you bring in 4 items for donation – just make sure to sign up for the class ahead of time at the front desk!

And working out on Thanksgiving is not for everyone, but make sure to work out on the day after! Barre Bee Fit has a few classes available on Friday, as well as some videos on YouTube for those who are out of town but still need their work out. Or perhaps keep the family fitness theme going by taking a walk around the local neighborhood. Just make sure to get moving and stay healthy.
