Beach Body Ready: Shoulders
An area of the body that is sometimes overlooked are the shoulders. Yet having healthy, toned shoulders is an important aspect for your overall health and your appearance.
Let’s start with the health aspect. Your shoulders are primarily composed of muscle. It is important to keep the muscles in your shoulder well to avoid issues with the shoulder blades themselves, the upper back, and the neck.
Proper shoulder maintenance involves:
- exercising properly (to avoid strain),
- maintaining good posture,
- trying to keep the weight in your purse light,
- & pampering yourself with the occasional massage.
Are you a current or former athlete? If so, you want to take special care of your rotator cuff. Much like the name suggests, these muscles help you rotate your shoulders. They also help you lift your arms in front and to the sides of your body. Athletes and people in professions that require them to reach often for materials often injure this group of muscles. In addition to the health benefits for having tones shoulders, there are also the shallow reasons.
When talking about appearance, the deltoids are the muscles in your shoulders that you see. Toned deltoid muscles help give you a curvier, hourglass figure, and make your waist look smaller.
There are three areas of the deltoids you want to tone to get the toned shoulders you want: the anterior, medial, and posterior areas.
